Principles of Healthy Child Development

Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is a virtual live four-hour training that equips front-line leaders with the tools, knowledge, and resource needed to ensure each child's social, emotional, and cognitive needs are met. Focus is placed on the needs of children aged 4 to 12.

PHCD QUEST 1

This two-hour online training for supervisors and managers provides access to templates for 86 policies and procedures in key risk areas including hiring, emergency management, program planning, and report tracking. The templates support a child-centred approach to service delivery and operations in order to minimize risk.

PHCD QUEST 2

This training helps supervisors improve risk management in children’s programs by learning how to assess and measure quality with the HIGH FIVE QUEST 2 Tool. Learners will also be given the tools to debrief the results of the assessments with staff in a positive way and create a process for continuous improvement.

PHCD Trainer

This two-day training is designed for leaders responsible for training staff within their organization and those interested in helping deliver PHCD training to other agencies within their community. Learners must have already completed PHCD, HIGH FIVE Sport*, QUEST 1, and QUEST 2 training prior to registering to become a trainer.

After completing Principles of Healthy Child Development, learners will gain access to four additional modules at no cost.

Healthy Minds for Healthy Children

This module will help learners better understand their role in nurturing children’s mental health by providing tools and strategies for creating welcoming environments, engaging children who may be suffering from mental health distress, and communicating with children and caregivers about sensitive topics.
